THE 2008 MTV MOVIE AWARDS PRESENTERS AND PERFORMERS

The coveted popcorn does not have any feet to walk on its own and hand over itself to the declared winner of the night so it has to be handed out.  And what’s the best way to usher the honor? Why not get the biggest stars in showbiz to date?

Here are the announced presenters, in no particular order,  for this year’s award ceremony:

Tom Cruise

Will Smith

Will Ferrell

Sarah Jessica Parker

Lindsay Lohan

Steve Carell

Robert Downey Jr.

Seth Rogen

Charlize Theron

Rainn Wilson

Anna Faris

Katherine McPhee

Megan Fox

Brendan Fraser

Danny McBride

Liv Tyler

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson

Jennifer Hudson

To spice up the show more, why not hire the most popular pop/rock group in the industry for a one hot steamy performance.  As of this writing, the confirmed acts to perform are Coldplay and the Pussycat Dolls.

Isn’t this exciting or what? Guess I have to see the whole thing first before I speak.  And oh, I did see Lindsay Lohan on the list of presenters.  Hmm…

NOT VAIN, OKAY?

It’s been a couple of days now since my co-worker Vanessa and I have been arguing about vanity.  She keeps on insisting that I’m vain and I’m incessantly depending that I’m not.  What I’ve done was to dig some articles, materials or anything that could help me in my defense.  I wandered the net and found one vanity test and gave it a shot.  And the result is…

See, I’m not vain.  Hope this helps me convince you guys that I’m not.  I’m not vain, okay? Not vain…

NEW KIDS ON THE BLOCK REUNITED

Yes, it’s the time to rekindle the good old times when band members were still arguing who’s going to sing which line , who’s going to be the center of the dance routine, and who’s going to wear which wardrobe.  It’s the time when band mates outdo each other to get the attention of the screaming fans.  It’s the time when each member blames one after the other to cause tension among the group, disband and move on with solo careers.  Nevertheless, the time spent apart is worthwhile.  So forget whatever and whoever caused the breakup.  It’s the perfect time to reconcile – to reunite.

The Spice Girls made the first move and then came, New Kids on The Block.  They’re back together.  Yes, they’re back believe it or not.  Oh, I’m such a big fan.  So there goes, Joey, Jordan, Donnie, and the other two guys.  Oh, I lied.  I was not actually a big fan.  In fact, I was too young when they first came out and I was not a music fan that time.  I didn’t even know they exist not until now when I’m back tracking songs from the 80’s, my birth decade.  I didn’t realize that they made impact, if not so little, to the music business.

I heard they have a new single, Summertime, which I haven’t listened to yet.  I also learned that they were performing the new song live in TV, which I haven’t seen too.  Wow, they’re really serious about regrouping, aren’t they? And as reported, they are eyeing a September release for their reunion album.  Oh, I really love “Step by Step”.  Will it be included in the upcoming album or will the album be of new and original material? Will I hear something like that song from them again? I don’t know.  Let’s just wait and see.

For now, I’ll just cheer for them guys.  Go Jordan!!!  Go Joey!!!  Go other three guys!!!  (smiling)

SOMETHING NEW FROM JESSICA SIMPSON

Jessica Simpson puts on a new skin, musically.  If you’ve been carried away by her “yee haws” from “These Boots Are Made for Walkin’”, wait until you get more when her new and first country album comes out sometime in September.

Her new single, Come on Over which is scheduled for a July release, is currently creating buzz across country radio stations and is expected to debut on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart.

So Jess did really jump across the pop world barrier to join the ranks of country superstars like Dolly Parton, Faith Hill, Shania Twain, and of course, Carrie Underwood.  I think this genre suits her better besides the fact that pop music has been aloof to her.

She couldn’t make herself Britney so let’s see how far she’ll get if she does a Carrie.  Hmmm…

USHER’S ABOUT TO STAND ATOP

As reported by billboard.com, Usher is on his way to score his 2nd #1 album with “Here I Stand” estimating its sales to 267,000.  And if weekend sales will be in his favor, he has fair chances of meeting or even exceeding the best week sales of the year – Mariah Carey’s E=MC2.

Go and STAND tall Usher!!!

DAVID COOK ROCKS

After rocking the American Idol stage and winning the coveted title, David Cook makes a remarkable entrance to both the Billboard Hot 100 and Hot Digital Songs charts with record setting debuts.  He scored 11 titles on the former, 14 on the latter, enough to give him the record for most debuts in a week by any artist in the Nielsen Music era.  His multiple debuts beat Miley Cyrus who had 6 back in November 11, 2006 for her Hannah Montana feat.  Wait, Miley Cyrus can sing?

Here are the songs that propelled David Cook’s record:

The Time of My Life debuts at #3

Dream Big at #15

I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For at #22

The World I Know at #28

I Don’t Want To Miss a Thing at #42

 Billie Jean at #47

Always Be My Baby at #67

Hello at #73

Music of The Night at #77

Eleanor Rigby at #92

I’m Alive at #99

So that’s 11 entries, a combined total of 994,000 downloads in the first week of selling.  That’s way too amazing.  Cook is currently in the works with Ryan Tedder and Jesse McCartney for his debut album which is scheduled to drop fall of 2008.

Work hard Cook!  I know you’ll get far.  And Miley Cyrus can sing???

ARTIST SPOTLIGHT: NE-YO

Ne-Yo is undoubtedly talented.

He’s armed with a soulful voice and unmatched song writing skill.  He can go either way, and man, he’s really good both ways.  It’s amazing how a singer can write, produce and write his own songs.  No wonder many artists, old and newcomers, see to it that they include Ne-Yo in their repertoire.  It’s like back in the 90’s when most of the singers turn to either Dianne Warren or David Foster for a breakthrough.  But this is the new generation so Ne-Yo will get most of the calls from the biggest names in the music industry.

Here’s the latest from Ne-Yo’s songbook:

“Bossy” penned for Lindsay Lohan

“Spotlight” for Jennifer Hudson

“I’m You” for Leona Lewis

“His Mistakes” for Usher

Ne-Yo’s third studio album, “Year of the Gentleman”, is scheduled for an Aug. 15 release.  The lead single from this set is “Closer” and it’s currently rocking the charts.

Oh, can’t wait for the new album.  Just can’t…

STILL NO COFFEE

I fell asleep.  My shift has just begun and what have I done? I slept.  Yes, it’s not a power nap this time.  I won’t hesitantly say that I slept for 30 minutes while sitting in front of the computer with my IPOD earphones plugged to both of my ears.  Oh well, this is what usually happens to me if I don’t take in caffeine into my system.  I can’t control it.

I still have to find a way to stay up yet coffee-free or else I have no choice but to rush to the pantry and go straight to the coffeemaker.

To coffee or not to coffee? Arrghh…
