IT’S OFFICIAL: USHER STANDS ATOP

Here I Stand, Usher’s fifth studio album, debuts at #1 on the Billboard 200 with 433,000 copies sold in the US, enough to be the second biggest debut this year behind Mariah Carey’s E=MC2 with 463,000 figure.

This is the second time Usher reaches the summit after four years when “Confessions” made a whopping 1,096,000 start and topped the penthouse for nine weeks.  The said album went on to be the best-seller back in 2004.

Love in This Club, the lead single from “Here I Stand” featuring Young Jeezy, spent 3 weeks at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

Other notable debuts include:

Sex And The City Soundtrack at #2

Al Green’s “Lay It Down” at #9

Cyndi Lauper’s “Bring Ya to the Brink” at #41

Fergie’s “The Dutchess:  The Deluxe E.P.” at #46

Congratulations Usher!

As reported by billboard.com, Usher is on his way to score his 2nd #1 album with “Here I Stand” estimating its sales to 267,000.  And if weekend sales will be in his favor, he has fair chances of meeting or even exceeding the best week sales of the year – Mariah Carey’s E=MC2.

ARTIST SPOTLIGHT: NE-YO

Ne-Yo is undoubtedly talented.

He’s armed with a soulful voice and unmatched song writing skill.  He can go either way, and man, he’s really good both ways.  It’s amazing how a singer can write, produce and write his own songs.  No wonder many artists, old and newcomers, see to it that they include Ne-Yo in their repertoire.  It’s like back in the 90’s when most of the singers turn to either Dianne Warren or David Foster for a breakthrough.  But this is the new generation so Ne-Yo will get most of the calls from the biggest names in the music industry.

Here’s the latest from Ne-Yo’s songbook:

“Bossy” penned for Lindsay Lohan

“Spotlight” for Jennifer Hudson

“I’m You” for Leona Lewis

“His Mistakes” for Usher

Ne-Yo’s third studio album, “Year of the Gentleman”, is scheduled for an Aug. 15 release.  The lead single from this set is “Closer” and it’s currently rocking the charts.

Oh, can’t wait for the new album.  Just can’t…

MOST PLAYED FROM E=MC2

I’ve got the copy of Mariah Carey’s tenth studio album, Einstein’s equation.  Oops!  I mean E=MC2.  I say the set is worth listening and way better than it predecessor.  I’m not going to lay out my views about the album though.  What I would like to do is list the songs I played the most from the compilation.  I picked the best five, for me they are, and here they go in order of preference:

#5 – For The Record

I like the verse where Mimi’s old song lyrics or titles are incorporated.  What a very nice way to tell her love story.  Is it her love story  with her ex-husband?

#4 – Cruise Control

This one’s another spell-it-to-me-baby song like Fergie’s “Glamorous”.  So how do you spell cruise? Make sure you’re spelling it with Jamaican accent while driving cool in the right lane.

#3 – Migrate

I dig this better than “It’s Like That”.

#2 – Bye Bye

Stargate, you did it again!  How many times do I have to be hooked to your compositions? I love your songs especially this one.

#1 – I Stay In Love

I’m feeling this song.  See, I’m such a hopeless romantic.  This struck me the most – love it!

Go get your equation too…
